Stefan meets New York-based Sam Evian

You may not have heard of these guys as yet ( you probably have!) We can confirm they will be  everywhere in 2017- our prediction!. Distract’s Stefan meets New York-based Sam Evian.

Q: Your video for “Sleep Easy” heavily features a motorcycle. Is it you doing the stunt work? And what made you decide to use a motorcycle and not a car? And then why that particular bike?

That’s Kym doing the stunts! I was spending some time in North Carolina, working with my friends Adam and Sara of Endless Endless on video/art/gerneral aesthetic stuff. We had already discovered that we liked the motorcycle trope during an early photo shoot for the Sleep Easy 7″, so we decided to run with it. We referenced this film called Mauvais Sang for some of the sleeping shots at the end.

Q: Kym Register was featured in the video why did you decide to feature her with you? Have you guys played together?

I had only met Kym once, but she is close with Adam and Sara [designers of the Premium packaging]. They called her up, and she was game. She runs a venue in Durham called the Pinhook and has a band called Loamlands. We hit it off and had a great time cruising around.

Q: “I Need A Man” features all of Financial District as your backdrop. Why was this the part of NYC you wanted to feature for this song? Since you are NYC based artists what part of NY do you get your inspiration from?

We started on the Staten Island ferry. its one of my favorite little tricks in the city, because its basically a free harbor tour. the colors and views are great. the ferry brings you right into the financial district, so we ended up wandering around there. The video was really only intended to be a lyric video, but it was kind of fun to stumble around that area in a mask. most people weren’t really phased by it, but some were really curious and confused.

Q: How has NYC influenced your style of music?
Its mostly about the people I’ve met and surrounded myself with. even with the impossible cost of living, lots of young artists still choose to come here. most of the people i know have multiple jobs and still make time to prioritize their art. NYC gave me some serious hustle, and a beautiful network of people to work with.
Q: Your debut album, “Premium” is available on pre-order on iTunes. Can you tell us about it? What was behind it? What do you hope the audience takes away from it?Its got a good beat and you can dance to it.

That’s mostly a joke but also it is the way I’ve been thinking about it.

Q: What are your musical influences? Personal ones?

Q: Was music a big part of your life growing up? What instruments do you play? Do you try to incorporate all of them in your music?

It was everything. I grew up playing the saxophone. my parents are jazz musicians and i started gigging with them when i was 13 or so. I play mostly guitar and keys now, but can fake the bass and I really suck at the drums but that doesn’t mean I won’t try.

Q: You say that your personal interest is “hydration”. Your tour is titled hydration too. Can you tell us what exactly this means?

Its really the most important thing you can do for yourself. i promise.

Q: Where do you hope to tour? Any plans for London soon?

all over. hoping to make it to UK/EU sometime in 2017 🙂
